Dear Mr. Morley:
RE:
Cook Nuclear Plant NPDES Permit No. MI005827 On June 24, 1992, at 0905 EDT, during intermittent chlorination of the plant service water
- systems, a
grab sample of Outfall 002, circulating water discharge was analyzed for total residual chlorine (TRC).
The analysis indicated a
TRC concentration of
- 0. 33 mg/1.
The sodium hypochlorite flow to the systems was immediately reduced.
At 0945 hours0.0109 days
0.263 hours
0.00156 weeks
3.595725e-4 months
, a grab sample analysis indicated the concentration of TRC had decreased to 0.15 mg/l.
The daily value for TRC during the time of chlorination was 0.19 mg/l.
The flow balance between plant systems has been identified as a contributing factor to the event.
Presently, Unit One is shutdown for a refueling
- outage, while Unit Two is in the process of increasing power after refueling outage.
Chlorine demands may have fluctuated due to varying service water systems flow conditions.
By copy of this
- letter, thc Nuclear Regulatory Commission is notified pursuant to the requirements.of.Appendix. B, Part II, Nonradiological, Environmental Protection
- Plan, Section 3.2.
