Dear Mr. Zugger:

RE: Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant NPDES Permit No. MI 0005827 Circulating Mater, Total Residual rchard C. Menge Chlorine Discharge Limitations

'iice President

= 425 2103 At 13:35 hours on September 10, 1988, an analysis of a grab sample of the Unit 81 discharge taken during circulating water chl orinati on showed a total res i dual chl or inc concentrati on of 0. 135 mg/1. The pump chlorine feed was immediately reduced to bring the total residual chlorine concentration back within limits. Circulating water chlorination was concluded at 14:00 hours. The average of all samples taken during this chlorination cycle was.0.07 mg/1.

The 'igh chlorine level was apparently due to a temporary reduced flow of water thr ough the system.

By copy of this letter, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is notified pursuant to the requirements of Appendix B, Part II, Nonradiological Environmental Protection Plan, Section 3.2.

Very truly yours, Richard C. Menge Senior Vice President RCM/df c: A. B. Davis -
