Dear Dr. Grace:

Attached is some infonnation detailing the managerial changes and shifts in

. repor:ing relationships involving the Neely Nuclear Reactor operation. As you can see, the 3

Vice President for Interdisciplinary Programs will be able to devote much more attention to .

j the Neely Nuclear Reactor operations than was possible under the former reporting  !

relationships. We feel this structure is more likely to lead to the central positica for reactor i 1

. Atlanta, Georgia 30332 (404)8H 5051 September 16, 1988 MEMORANDUM To: John P. Crecine From: Linda Martinson

Subject:

Understanding of Reporting Structure of the Neely Nuclear Research Center In his new position of Vice President for Interdisciplinary Programs, Dr. Albert P. Sheppard will have direct administrative responsibility for the Neely Nuclear Research Center at Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Ratib Karam, Director of the Nuclear Research Center, will report directly to Dr. Sheppard.

This change in administrative reporting provides increased attention to the Center because the operations of the Nuclear Research Center constitute a greater scope of the responsibilities of the Vice President position. In addition, Dr. Sheppard is extremely knowledgeable about the history of the Nuclear Research Center.

During the past year, Dr. Sheppard chaited the Georgia Tech committee to investigate the future of the Nuclear Research Center.

The combination of Dr. Sheppard's experience and increased administrative attention to the Nuclear Research Center should have extremely positive effect.

Dr. Betty K. Revsin is the new manager of Georgia Tech's Office of Radiation Safety. Dr. Revsin biings a new dimension of experience to Georgia Tech with a strong background in health physics activities with an emphasis on power plant physics, solid waste, and transportation of radioactive and with over 15 years of experience in analytical laboratory and university hospital teaching. lier experience in safety procedures will provide increased leadership to Nuclear Research Center activities.

Atw ae.t w e acc ,i e w ua,e m.m %cune wium.

V

s Dr. Revsin will report administratively to Dr. Ratib Karam, Center Director, only for logistical support purposes. In all matters related to radiation safety she will have direct reporting lines to Dr. Bernd Kahn, Chairman of the Nuclear Safeguards Committee, and to Dr. John P.

Crecine, the President of Georgia Tech.
