CAUSE OF NONCOMPLT ANCE:

I A low flow condition due to a malfunction of the-filter feed pumps cauced carry over of solids in the clarifier l and a system upset. The pressure f11 tors woro-inoparablo and coul3 not be used.  :

Based on the turbidity data from the daily curveillanco i log, it appearc that the system upset existed for

approximately three days.

[ CORRECTIVE ACTION:

The filter food pumps woro backflushed on December 5, 1984, to roostablich catisfactory flow. One of the two food pumps was found to havo low flow following backfluching. It wsn repaired December 14, 1984, and returned to service.

PREVENTION OF FUTURE OCCURRENCES:

' Since the cause of noncompliance was an equipment malfunction, provention of future occurrence is difficult. Greater emphasis will be placed on examining conditions at the Sowage Treatment Plant during the lato j

! afternoon. Alco, maintenance on the pressure filters is being achadulod. Sewage plant personnel have been advised as to the importance of prompt notification of

supervision concerning plant problems.
