Sewage Wet Well Overflow on August 29, 1988 Peacn Bottom Atomic Power Station NPDES Permit No.
PA 0009733 This is a followup to the phone conversation August 29, 1989 between Steven Dale and James Valinski of the Chemistry Staff. On Monday, August 29, 1988 at approximately 11:00 a.m. an operator was informed that the wet well in front of Unit 1 Administration Building was overflowing. This flow drained into the rocks adjacent to the wet well.
It was raining at the time of the incident.
Some of the liquid may have entered Rock Run Creek which flows into our 51scharge canal into the Susquehanna River.
The immediate action was to secure use of the restrooms in the temporary trailers that drained to the wet well. Whiteford Hauling was called to pump out the wet well.
The cause of the overflow was that the wet well had not been pumped that morning as scheduled. Whiteford Hauling had crrived earlier to pump the wet well but could not get access because of a car blocking the way. The driver attempted to find the owner but could not.
Prevention of further occurrences was to block parking access until the "N0 PARKING" sign is repainted. Also, Whiteford Hauling has been given instructions to notify security for assistance if access is found blocked in the future.
