DESCRIPTION OF NONCOMPLIANCE:
ThepHofasamplefromdischargepoint301(SettlingBasin) exceeded the monthly permit limit.

6.0 to 9.0 CAUSE OF NONCOMPLIANCE:
The cause of the noncompliance was the release of the "A" neutralizing tank without continuous pH indication and/or trip protection. The pH meter for the neutralization tank was out of service and determined to be unrepairable. Grab samples were being taken at the time.
OURATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE:
The duration of the noncompliance was approximately 11 hours1.273148e-4 days <br />0.00306 hours <br />1.818783e-5 weeks <br />4.1855e-6 months <br />.
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
I The corrective action was to isolate the settling basin by shutting off the raw water sump pumps. The settling basin was then neutralized by adding alum to it.
It was neutralized at 2238 hours0.0259 days <br />0.622 hours <br />0.0037 weeks <br />8.51559e-4 months <br />, April 4 with a pH of 7.79.

PREVENTION OF FURTHER OCCURRENCES:
A station modification to replace the neutralizing tank pH meter was in progress. This Mod was completed on April 29, 1988.
