DESCRIPTION OF NONCOMPLIANCE:
The pit of a sample from discharge point 301 (Settling Basin) exceeded the permit limit.

6.0 to 9.0 CAUSE OF HONCOMPLIANCE:
The cause of the noncompliance is unknown.
NOTE: According to discussions with the Department in 1986, the pit limit for this internal monitoring point will be removed from the permit. We would like the Department to amend the permit as soon as possible.

.. CORRECTIVE ACTION:
The corrective action was to stop discharge to the river. Soda ash was then added to neutralize the settling basin. The pH was within permit limits within two hours. The neutralizing sump pH meter was checked on May 2, 1988 and was working properly.
