DESCRIPTION OF NONCOMPLIANCE:
The pH of samples from discharge point 401 (Auxiliary Boiler Blowdown) exceeded the permit limit.

6.0 to 9.0 pH Note:
Per telephone discussion with Mr. Ed Corriveau of the DER, the pH limitation for this internal monitoring point will be removed from the permit.
CAUSE OF NONCOMPLIANCE:
The cause of the noncompliance was high blowdown rate of the auxiliary hoilers.
DURATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE:
The duration of the noncompliance was six hours on February 25, 1986, and two and one half hours on March 4, 1986.

. CORRECTIVE ACTION:
The dilution flow to the quench tank was checked, and-found to be at full. flow during blowdowns.
A sample taken on March 4, 1986, when the blowdown rate was approximately 2,000 lbs/hr. measured 9.6 pH.
The blowdown rate was reduced that' day to 1000 lbs/hr and another sample measured 7.4 pH.
