DESCRIPTION OF NONCOMPLIANCE:
The suspended solids of a sample from discharge point 501 (Sewage Treatment Plant) exceeded the instantaneous maximum permit limit.

60 ppm Maximum CAUSE OF NONCOMPLIANCE:
.The cause of the noncompliance was high suspended solids in the aeration tank resulting in a heavy sludge loading on the clarifiers and subsequent carryover of solids.
The problem was compounded by the filters being out of service for maintenance.

- DURATION OF NONCOMPLIANCE:
The exact duration is unknown, but the turbidity data indicate that the instantaneous maximum was exceeded intermittently over a four day period.
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
The corrective action was to increase the wasting of sludge to reduce the solids level.
In addition, flow was stopped from the sewage plant and the effluent was reprocessed through the equalization basin.
The filters were returned to service on May 4 after several maintenance items were completed.
PREVENTION OF FUTURE OCCURRENCES The solids level is being closely monitored and increased wasting of solids is being performed as needed.
The sludge level in the clarifiers is being monitored so that appropriate and timely action can be taken to reduce carryover.
