Schwencer, Chief Operating Reactors Branch No. 1 Division of Operating Reactors U. S. Nuclear Pegulatory Comnission Washington, D. C. 20555

Dear Mr. SclTwencer:

Py letters dated September 14, 1977 and October 27, 1977, the Regulatory Staff rcquested certain inforration regarding fracture toughness and the potential for lanellar tearing of the Indian Point Unit No. 2 steam generator and reactor coolant ptrnp support rraterials. Partial responses to the staff requests were transmittcd to you by our letter cated Decerrber 12, 1978. The present suLmittal supersedes our December 12, 1978 submittal and ampletes our response to the Re<Tulatory Staff's roguest for inforration.

e Transmitted herewith are forty (40) copies of a Westinghouse Electric Corporation report for Indian Point Unit tb. 2 entitled, " Fracture Toughness and Design Considerations for Addressing Lanellar Tearing of Steam Generator and Reactor Coolant Pump Support Material" (Proprietary), dated March 1979. This report docurents the design and fabrication considerations used to minimize the susceptibility of the supports to lamellar tearing ard its format is in response to the questions as presented in the Staff's Eeptember 14, 1977 letter. In addition, trans-mitted herewith are ten (10) copies of the drawings referenced in the report.

Since the report transmitted with this letter contains proprietary information of Westinghouse Electric Corporation, it is requested that this report be withheld frcrn public disclosure. In support of this request, forwarded herewith is "Apolication for Withholding Proprietary Information frcm Public Disclosure" from Mr. Robert A.
