SEQUOYAH UNIT 2 RESTART AFTER TRIP ON JUNE 9, 1988 At 10:00 a.m., on June 19, the Director, Office of Special Projects, authorized Sequoyah Unit 2 to return to power following an 10 day outage subsequent to the reactor trip of June 9, 1988. During the outage, the licensee reduced the outstanding maintenance needed on balance-of-plant equipment and incorporated various administrative changes to improve methods of pla" operation. ,

The reactor was determined to be critical at 2:49 p.m., on June 19. During the power ascension phase, the reactor power will be liinited to 70% of its design capacity. The reason for this is to extend unit op2 rating time and to assure sufficient shutdown margin following a reactor trip during the end-of-life fuel cycle.

The plant is currently at approximately 1% reactor power and holding to correct main feedwater pump turbine oscillations.

This PN is being issued for information purposes only and is corrent as of 8:00 a.m. on June 21, 1988. ,
