Gentlemen:
SUBJECT: REPORT NOS. 50-327/85-24 AND 50-328/85-24
Thank you for your response of September 6,1985, to our Notice of Violation
issued on August 7,1985, concerning activities conducted at your Sequoyah
facility. We have evaluated your response to Violation 50-328/85-24-02 and found
that it meets the requirements of 10 CFR 2.201. We will examine the implemen-
tation of your corrective actions during future inspections.
Regarding your response to Violation 50-328/85-24-03, you state that the ice
buildup on June 10, 1985, was removed the same day and that a surveillance
instruction was performed to document that the intermediate deck doors were free
of ice. Our evaluation indicates that Maintenance Request A-553690 was generated
on June 10, 1985, to control the repair of insulation tape and removal of ice
and/or moisture buildup. It is our understanding that the maintenance request
documented completion of these activities on June 16, 1985. Since your response
indicates that ice removal and surveillance testing occurred within 48 hours of
finding the June 10, 1985 ice buildup, please provide in a supplemental response
specific explanation and documentation to justify your position that the
requirements of the limiting condition of operation of Technical Specification
3.6.5.3 were met. This request was discussed during a telephone call between
Mr. P. Wallace of your staff and Mr. S. Weise and Mr. B. Debs of the Region 11
    staff on September 13, 1985.
We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
                                                Sincerely.

Since your response

indicates that ice removal and surveillance testing occurred within 48 hours5.555556e-4 days
0.0133 hours
7.936508e-5 weeks
1.8264e-5 months
of

finding the June 10, 1985 ice buildup, please provide in a supplemental response

specific explanation and documentation to justify your position that the

requirements of the limiting condition of operation of Technical Specification 3.6.5.3 were met. This request was discussed during a telephone call between

Mr. P. Wallace of your staff and Mr. S. Weise and Mr. B. Debs of the Region 11

staff on September 13, 1985.

We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

Sincerely.
