This letter refers to the inspection conducted on September 14 through October 16,1998, at

the Sequoyah facility. The enclosed report presents the results of this inspection.

Based on the results of this inspection, the NRC has determined that a violation of NRC
requirements occurred. Th.3 violation is cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation and the
circumstances surrounding it are described in de. tail in the subject inspection report. The
,
l
violation is of concern because it revealed a lack of attention to detail installing the Unit 2
,
intermediate deck doors, most probably from a previous disassembly.
l

The NRC has concluded that information regarding the reason for the violation, the corrective
actions taken and planned to correct the violation and prevent recurrence is already adequately
i
l
addressed on the docket in the enclosed report. Therefore, you are not required to respond to
l
l
this letter unless the description therein does not accurately reflect your corrective actions or
your position. In that case, or if you choose to provide additional information, you should follow
the instructions specified in the enclosed Notice.
