NRC INTEGRATED INSPECTION REPORT NO. 50-327/98-10
AND 50-328/98-10
Dear Mr. Scalice:
This refers to the inspection conducted on October 11 - November 21,1998, at the Sequoyah
facility. The enclosed report presents the results of this inspection.
During the inspection period, your conduct of activities at the Sequoyah facility was generally
characterized by safety-conscious operations, sound engineering and maintenance practices,
and careful radiological work controls. Good operations performance was demonstrated during
power ascension following Unit 1 Cycle 9 refueling outage and two reactor trips with
subsequent restarts. Maintenance activities were performed correctly with the exception of an
improperly reassembled diaphragm valve which resulted in an unplanned dilution event. An
example of good engineering support was noted with the sound and conservative evaluation of
boron residue on the exterior of the Unit 1 pressurizer.
Within the scope of the inspection, violations or deviations were not identified.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
