Dear Mr. Scalice:
This refers to the inspection conducted on July 19 - August 29, 1998, at the
Sequoyah facility. The enclosed report presents the results of this
inspection.
During the inspection period, your conduct of activities at the Sequoyah
facility was generally characterized by good operations, maintenance.
engineering ano plant support. Operations performance was good during receipt
and inspection of new fuel'and in startup activities following a Unit 2 trip.
i
Maintenance implemented a well-planned forced outage schedule following the
Unit 2 trip, including replacement and calibration of a pressurizer level
transmitter.
However, deficiencies continue to be identified in the
maintenance and ins 3ection program for circuit breakers. Additionally.
deficiencies were o) served during an inspector walkdown of the Unit 2 ice
condenser.
Engineering support was considered to be good during modifications
'
to the spent fuel pit cooling system.
In the area of Plant Support, an
effective radiological emergency plan drill was conducted during this period.
The NRC received response dated September 3,1998 to Notice of Violation 50-
<
328/98-07-01 and 50-328/98-07-02, respectively.
We have evaluated your
response and found that they. meet the requirements of 10 CFR 2.201. We will
examine the implementation of your corrective actions during future
inspections.
In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of
this letter and its enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room.
Sincerely.
