SUBJECT:

REVIEW OF RESPONSE TO GENERIC LETTER 97-05 FOR SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MA0494 AND MA0495)

Dear Mr. Scalice:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff has reviewed the submittal by Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) dated March 16,1998, regarding Generic Letter (GL) 97-05,

" Steam Generator Tube Inspection Techniques." The focus of GL 97-05 was to verify that licensee steam generator tube inspection practices were consistent with existing regulatory requirements and plant licensing bases. TVA's response to the GL included a description and technical basis for all inspection techniques used to size the depth of steam generator tube degradation at the Sequoyah facility. The NRC staff's review of the response did not identify any concerns with the steam generator tube inspection techniques employed at Sequoyah that would indicate that TVA is not in compliance with the current licensing basis for the facility.
