SUMMARY
OF THE MAY 20, 2010, PUBLIC MEETING TO DISCUSS THE 2010 PRAIRIE ISLAND END-OF-CYCLE PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT On May 20, 2010, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) held a public meeting at the Twin Bluff Middle School Auditorium in Red Wing, Minnesota. The meeting was between NRC Region III management and Northern States Power Company Minnesota representatives to discuss the NRCs assessment of the safety performance of Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant for the period from January 1, 2009, through December 31, 2009. The meeting notice and NRC presentation can be found in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) as ML1010040602 and ML101260419, respectively. Before the meeting the NRC performed an open house and NRC representatives were available to answer questions.
The NRC began the meeting with an overview of the NRCs Mission, the Reactor Oversight Process (ROP), national ROP results, and the Action Matrix in general. This was followed by a discussion of the NRCs assessment of Palisades performance in 2009, which was documented in the March 3, 2010, End-Of-Cycle assessment letter (ML100610286).
The licensee then provided a response to the NRCs assessment. In addition, the licensee discussed the actions that they have undertaken to address the human performance substantive cross-cutting issue and the NRC officials asked a number of questions about the discussed actions. At the end of the meeting, members of the public were given the opportunity to ask questions of NRC officials. A list of principal meeting attendees can be found in the attached enclosure.
