Dear Mr. Denton:

Provided herewith is the SNUPPS " Report of Independent Revie cf Envi-ronmental Qualification Programs to NUREG-0588" which is suvinitted in accordance with the requirements of Safety Evaluation Report (SER)

Confirmatory Issue #7 for Callaway Nuclear Plant Unit No. 1 and #A.2 for Wolf Creek Generating Station Unit No. 1. The report docuuents the current NUREG-0588 environmental qualification status of sa'ety-related electrical equipuent for both SNUPPS plants. In accordance with the SER Confirmatory Issue requirements, corrective actions will be taken to establish equipment qualification prior to fuel loading or justifi-cation will be provided for interim operation until corrective actions are completed.

Please note that the report includes a description of a program for environmental qualification of safety-related mechanical equipment located in harsh environment areas; and a list of mechanical equipment is included in the report. It is requested that the NRC Equipment Qualification Branch identify to SNUPPS, as soon as possible, the mechanical equipment to be audited so that qualification information can be compiled by the time of the SNUPPS plant audits.

As discussed at the December 14, 1982 SNUPPS-EQ Branch Meeting, the SNUPPS Utilities anticipate a combined review consisting of a generic review of the SNUPPS program with a standard site visit to Callaway and a site visit to Wolf Creek for audit of field verification and installacion requirements only. The SNUPPS Utilities are planning for site audits approximately four to six weeks from the date of this submittal.
