On ' September.8, 1982, the bearing water makeup pump, P-2105, was taken outlof service. Since the reactor was at power during this occurrence, this is a degraded m' ode of LCO 4.2.2 and reportable per '

Fort St.-Vrain. Technical: Specification AC 7.5.2(b)2.

EVENT.

DESCRIPTION:

On September 8,.1982, with the reactor operating at approximately 70%

thermal power and 215 MWe, the bearing water makeup pump was removed

from service.to rebutid the pump shaft mechanical seal.

The makeup' pump was out of service from 0645 hours0.00747 days <br />0.179 hours <br />0.00107 weeks <br />2.454225e-4 months <br /> untti 1545 hours0.0179 days <br />0.429 hours <br />0.00255 weeks <br />5.878725e-4 months <br /> on' September 8, 1982. Had~it been needed, the emergency bearing water ' makeup pump, P-2108,'was available to' supply makeup to the two .

helium circulator bearing water surge tanks.

CAUSE

? DESCRIPTION:

8 earing _ water make"p pump, P-2105, was removed from service to

' rebuild the mechanical seal which was leaking excessively. This

-leakage .:was due to - normal wear and deterioration .during pump operation.

. CORRECTIVE ACTION  :

J .. , The. worn seal parts were replaced with new,'~ quality-related parts.

'Thel pump -impeller. clearance was reset, and.the pump returned to service within allowable time-limits.

No -further corrective action is anticipated or required.
