January 8, 2018 Mr. William F. Maguire Site Vice President Entergy Operations, Inc.

River Bend Station, Unit 1 5485 U.S. Highway 61 N St. Francisville, LA 70775

SUBJECT:

RIVER BEND STATION, UNIT 1 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION REVIEW RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR DUE DATE EXTENTION FOR REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (CAC NOS. MF9747 AND MF9778)

Dear Mr. Maguire:

By letter dated May 25, 2017 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML17153A282), the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) received the Entergy Operations, Inc. (Entergy) application for renewal of Operating License NPF-47 for River Bend Station, Unit 1 (RBS). The application was supplemented by letter dated August 1, 2017 (ADAMS Accession No. ML17213A064, non-public).

On August 7, 2017 (ADAMS Accession No. ML17177A058), the application was accepted for review. The purpose of this letter is to respond to requests from the applicant to extend the response due dates for requests for additional information (RAIs) resulting from the NRCs review of the RBS license renewal application.

By emails dated December 13, 2017 (ADAMS Accession Nos. ML17347B424 and ML17347B432, respectively), the NRC staff issued safety review RAI sets 4 and 5, with a response due date of 30 days. By email dated December 27, 2017 (ADAMS Accession No. ML17361A396), the NRC staff issued RAI set 6, with a response due date of 30 days. Due to a potential lack of resource support during the holidays, by letter dated December 20, 2017, Entergy requested a due date extension for these RAI sets (4, 5, and 6), and any other RAI sets received by RBS prior to January 1, 2018. This request extends the response due dates to all applicable RAIs from 30 to 45 days.

This request is hereby approved. The revised due dates for RAI sets 4, 5, and 6 are 45 days from the respective issue dates; however, all other issued RAI set due dates stand. The NRC is assessing whether the extension of RAI response due dates has an impact on the overall license renewal application review schedule and will provide the results of its assessment in a separate communication.

W Maguire If you have any questions on this matter, please contact me by telephone at 301-415-4084 or via e-mail at Emmanuel.Sayoc@nrc.gov.

Sincerely,

/RA/
