NUCLEAR PLANT NO. 2, OPERATING LICENSE NPF-21 RESPONSE TO NRC BULLETIN 89-02, "STRESS CORROSION CRACKING OF HIGH-HARDNESS TYPE 410 STAINLESS STEEL INTERNAL PRELOADED BOLTING IN ANCHOR DARLING MODEL S350W SWING CHECK VALVES OR VALVES OF SIMILAR DESIGN" Inresponse to the subject Bulletin the Supply System initiated a document search on all check val ves performing a safety rel ated function. This document search consisted of a design review to determine Model S350W swing check valves or valves with features similar to this valve if Anchor Darling are being utilized at WNP-2 for this function. The results of this review are as follows:

o 121 valve designs were identified and reviewed. None of these valves were Anchor Darling Model S350W.

o Of the 121 valve designs reviewed, fifteen were found to have preloaded internal fasteners in an application similar to that of the Anchor Darling Model S350W.

o None of the fifteen valves with preloaded internal fasteners utilized quenched and tempered Type 410 stainless steel. Eleven of the fifteen were SA-193 Grade BB (Type 304 austenitic stainless steel), with the remaining four valves utilizing ASTM A449 bolting (high strength medium carbon steel).

Based on the above findings, the WNP-2 plant, in compliance with the actions requested in NRC Bulletin 89-02, does not plan any further actions associated with this bulletin.
