Subject:

NUCLEAR PLANT NO. 2, LICENSE NPF-21 NRC INSPECTION REPORT 86-12, REQUEST FOR EXTENSION OF RESPONSE TIME Reference; Letter, RJ Pate (NRC RV) to GC Sorensen (SS)

"NRC Enforcement Actions Related to Inspection No. 50-397/86-12", dated December 16, 1987 Appendix A of the referenced letter described three activities, identified during an NRC team inspection April 28 through May 2, 1986, considered to be violations. It further requested a response within 30 days of the date of the notice, December 16, 1987.

Due to the Holiday season and other apparent difficulties the reference and notice of violation were not received by the Supply System until December 29, 1987 leaving a review and response time far shorter than normally pro-vided. Supply System personnel have attempted to meet the shortened schedule but feel that in order to ensure an accurate, quality response a minimal extension to the response time is needed. Accordingly, the Supply System hereby requests an extension to the required response time to January 20, 1988.

This request was informally discussed in a telephone conversation, January 15, 1988, between Messrs R. J. Pate of your staff and P. L. Powell and J. D.

Arbuckle of the Supply System. Should you have any questions, please contact Mr. P. L. Powell, Manager, NNP-2 Licensing.
