Subject:

NUCLEAR PLANT NO. 2 OPERATING LICENSE NPF-21 OPERABILITY OF ACOUSTIC MONITOR FOR MS-RV-2D

Reference:

Letter, G02-87-265, GC Sorensen (SS) to NRC, "Request for Amendment to Technical Specification Table 3.3.7.5-1 (Accident Monitoring Instrumentation) Under Emergency Circumstances", dated October 13, 1987 In the reference letter the Supply System requested that the acoustic moni-tor for MS-RV-2D be allowed to be inoperable until the plant shut down for R-3 (May 15, 1988) or until the first forced outage of sufficient duration to effect repair, whichever occurred first. The NRC granted this request by issuance of Amendment No. 47 to the WNP-2 Technical Specifications on an emergency basis.

On December 6, 1987 the Supply System began a planned decrease in power primarily for the purpose of performing repairs to the condensate filter demineralizers. The plant completed this work, and has since returned to normal power operation.

During this brief outage, the Supply System was able to effect the necessary repairs to the Acoustic Monitor for MS-RV-2D, and has determined that it is agai n operable. With its return to oper ability, the Supply System will perform the channel check on the temperature recorder on a monthly basis as required by LCO 3/4.3.7.5. The control room annunciator that was added to alarm on high tail pipe temperature will remain in service. In addition, the annunciator response procedures will be revised.
