WPPSS NUCLEAR PROJECT NO. 2 RESPONSE TO IE BULLETIN 79-03A Ref: Letter, D. L. Renberger (WPPSS) to R. H. Engelken (NRC), same subject, dated September 9, 1980.
In the referenced letter, we indicated our intention to complete a review of contractor material lists for use of SA-312 or A-312, Type 300 Series fusion welded pipe. As a result of that review, we have discovered that some SA-312 and A-312, Type 300 Series fusion welded pipe had been installed in safety-related systems. However, no safety-related system is subject to design stresses greater than 85 percent of the ASt1E Code allowable stresses. Furthermore, only one system has been identified for which the ends of the piping could be etched. A program has been established to perform the etching.
The results of the etching will be forwarded to both the manufacturer and the NRC when they become available.
