Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416 and 50-417 File 0260/0862 In Plant Testing, Submittal of Additional Information on Kuosheng Testing AECM-81/485 Our letter of November 18, 1981, (AECM-81/453) provided to you our essessment of the Kuosheng " Quick Look" In Plant Test Report and our conclusion that the data is confirmatory for Grand Gulf. This conclusion is based on the criteria of NUREG 0763. Since that time your staff requested additional information which was presented in a December 2, 1981, meeting.

This letter will document the discussions of that meeting, and serves to transmit additional data requested at that time.

1) Attachment A provides a copy of meeting slides presented in response to your questions (29 pages).

2) Attachment B provides a copy of all acceleration response spectra (ARS) which have been used in our evaluation. This includes all single valve, consecutive valve, and multiple valve actuations.

3) Attachment C provides a discussion of eclected ARS comparisons (Kuosheng predicted vs. Kuosheng measured vs. Grand Gulf predicted).

This discussion addresses minor differences in the spectra and explains why there is no impact to design. (3 pages)

4) Attachment D provides a Pressure Response Spectra (PRS) comparison as a part of our final evaluation scheduled for March of 1982. This comparison was requested to assist the NRC in the assessment of the load definition although we feel the ARS comparisons presented to date confirm a conservative design regardless of the results of this PRS comparison.

As discussed in our November 8, 1981 letter, it is MP&L's position that the Kuosheng data is confirmatory to Grand Gulf and that review of the data confirms a conservative design. It remains our intent to provide our final evaluation in March, 1982, immediately following the Kuosheng Final report. ,

No additional testing is planned for Grand Gulf Nuclear Station, Unit 1.
