Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station Unit 2 Change of Commitment NRC Docket Number 50-265. DPR-30 l

Reference:

(a) G. G. Campbell (Comed) Letter (GGC-93-014) To USNRC, i Dated November 2,1993 l The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the cancellation of a commitment contained )

in Licensee Event Report (LER) 265/93-022, reference (a). l In this report, the station made the following commitment:

)

All applicable ECCS bedplate drains will be rerouted to floor drains inside the  !

respective corner rooms; following piping removal, the existing room penetrations l will be properly sealed.

i t

Previous to the subject LER, the Re .ctor Core Isolation Cooling (RCIC) bed plate drain j line was open to the common Core Spray /RCIC pump equipment drain header. As a j result of flooding concerns, due to debris found in the 2-1399-129 check valve, a i plumber's plug was installed in the RCIC bed plate drain on both units.

The initial plan was to reroute the RCIC bed plate drain to a floor drain inside of the l RCIC/ Core Spray room. Subsequently, during the performance of Operability Screenings for Problem Identification Forms 97-0580 and 98-0423, all four Emergency Core Cooling System (ECCS) corner room equipment drain check valves were inspected, tested, and found to be operable. Based on this, predefines have been added to have the check valves opened and inspected on a regular basis. In addition to this, a normally closed ball valve has been added to the RCIC bed plate drain line on both units.

The previous flood path from the torus area to the RCIC bed piate now has two salves preventing flow in that direction.

1 Based on the check valve inspection frequency and the addition of the ball valves, there , i is no need to reroute the RCIC bed plate drain lines. Therefore, this system modification jg{ p will be canceled. j' (h 9ch 0 9804140211 980406 PDR ADOCK 05000265 S PDR a e icom Comnmy J
