I U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commiission Document Control Desk Washington, DC 20555 I

Reference:

Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station Docket Number 50-254, DPR-29, Unit One Enclosed is Licensee Event Report (LER)94-016, Revision 00, for Quad Cities Nuclear Power Station.

This report is submitted in accordance with the requirements of the Code of Federal Regulations, Title 10, Part 50.73(a)(2)(ii)(B). The licensee shall report any event or condition that resulted in the condition of the nuclear power plant, including its principal safety barriers, being seriously degraded, or that resulted in the nuclear plant being in a condition that was outside the design basis of the plant.

The following commitments are being made by this letter:

Comed will instruct Work Analysts to implement PNV actions on support verification on pump disassemblies, replacements, or alignment activities that result in disconnected piping. Engineering will be contacted to resolve flange misalignments on ISI Class 1, 2, or 3 pumps.

- Comed will revise QCM-1530-9, Post Maintenance Verification Guide for Pumps, to include inspection of the closest supports off of the pump and associated piping following maintenance activities that could impact the supports.

- Comed will develop and provide training for Mechanical Maintenance personnel to identify the proper work practices for addressing flange alignments and to verify that supports were not affected. This training will also address the proper supporting of flanges.

Additional analysis will be performed to further define the effects of the piping loads on the pump nozzle. If the analysis indicates that the 1/2 EDGCWP would not have performed its design function in the as found condition, a supplemental LER will be submitted.
