Subjec t s Exemption Request for Reactor Operators Selected for the NRC Requalification Examination

Dear Mr. Murley:

Toledo Edison Company (TE) requests an exemption under 10CFR55.ll in order to allow specific reactor operator and senior reactor operator licensees to deviate from the schedule for requalification examinations required by 10CFR55.59(a)(2). l During the week of May 14, 1990, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) vill '

administer NRC Requalification Examinations to selected TE reactor operator and senior reactor operator licensees. Toledo Edison's schedule for administering written requalification examinations and annual operating tests '

is based on a November'requalification exam date. As a result, those reactor operator and senior reactor operator licensees selected for the NRC  ;

requalification-examination vill be misaligned from the TE exam schedule. 6 Toledo Edison hereby requests that those reactor operator and senior reactor i operator licensees selected to take the May 1990 NRC Requalification Examination be allowed a six month one time extension to the schedule required

'for the requalification examinations administered by Toledo Edison in ,

accordance with 10CFR55.59(a)(2). These operators vill continue to attend

-scheduled training and meet all the requirements for satisfactory completion of the-requalification course. However, they would not be required to take the written examination and annual operating test scheduled for November 1990.

Toledo Edison requests that future NRC Requalification Examinations be ' L-scheduled in November (beginning in November, 1991) rather than May in order to coincide with Toledo Edison's schedule (Reference Generic Letter 89-03, Operator Licensing National Examination Schedule).
