1. PURPOSE O 1.1 Objective i

. Provide guidance to the Manager of Public Information, the Nuclear News Manager, and other public information personnel for receiving, resolving, and tracking rumors and inquiries during events which activate the Station Emergency Response Organization.

3. PRECAUTIONS 3.1 NU's role is to discuss on-site conditions or information only. Rumors or inquiries involving off-site response should be addressed by the State.

3.2 All individuals are cautioned not to repeat or respond to rumors.

4. INSTRUCTIONS C)

C 4.1 Response to Rumors and Inquiries NOTE The following actions apply to calls received at the EOF prior to the activation of the Rumor and Inquiry Control Center at the State EOC.

4.1.1 RESPOND to caller's inquiries using available information.

NOTE Attachment 1," Sample Rumor Control / Inquires Form,"is provided as a sample.

4.1.2 Refer To ADM 5258," Rumor Control / Inquiries Form,"and RECORD all calls and inquiries.

4.1.3 FILE original form and FAX completed form to the State EOC.

) 4.1.4 POST a copy of completed form on EOF Rumor Control board.

The following actions apply to calls received once the Joint Rumor and Inquiry Control Center at the State EOC is activated.

i The Joint Rumor and Inquiry Control Center should be the centralized location for all calls from the media, local officials, and members of the

_ public. If a callis received at the site once the center is activated, the call should be directed to the State EOC, unless a simple response is possible.

4.1.5 RESPOND to inquiries using available information.

4.1.6 FILE original form.

4.1.7 INFORM the State Rumor and Inquiry Control Supervisor of any calls requiring State emergency assistance (i.e., injuries, special needs).

4.1.8 NOTIFY Rumor and Inquity Control Liaison of rumors.

4.1.10 WHEN responding to telephone calls, PERFORM the following:

  • PROVIDE information that has been officially released or approved by the EOF DSEO or Rumors and Inquiry Control Liaison.

  • E questioned on plant status, PROVIDE the latest news release information.

  • E questioned on injured plant personnel AND injury information is verified, CONFIRM injuries have occurred.

  • E questioned by employee family members, REQUEST caller's name and relationship to the employee.
  • PROVIDE assurance to caller that everything is being done to protect plant personnel and emergency responders.

NOTIFY caller that emergency responders will call home when they get the opportunity.
