Dear Ms. Jackson,

The Perry Nuclear Pover Plant has enlisteu Bett Industria to assist in the removal of calcium carbonate scale from an emergency service water heat exchanger twice during the current outage. The proposed method is to add Betz DE-1579 to the hea t exchanger for two 48 hot.r treat! rents. The discharge v'll be continuous during each treatment s it vill be comMned with untreated seiv'ce vater prior to entering state vatets.

i This product and procedure vill only bc used for cleaning and in not part of routine daily operation. This product wr.s approved for a similar application at the Perry Plant in June 1989 (see Attachment 1).

Attachments 2 - 5 contain the information required in accordance with O' lo EPA procederen. Our intention is to begin the first treatment during the va n of 4pril 13, 1902, pending yw r appraval;-ve would appreciate your notifying us of the results of your evaluation as soon as possible. Please contact Letise Barton at (216) 259-3737 ext. 5512 vith your results, or if you have questions or need further information.
