The Perry Nuclear Power Plant (PNPP) has enlisted Nalco Chemical Company to provide a replacement for the scale inhibitor product curremly in use in the plant circulating water system. The product currently in use for calcium scale control is Betz Depositrol 860D, which was approved for use under Director's Final Findings and Orders on May 11,1995. PNPP intends to replace the lletz product with DYNACOOL 1385 scale inhibitor / dispersant.

The cherr ' cal will be injected continuously into the suction forebay of the circulating water system at a rate of 7 to 27 gallons per day to achieve a maximum concentratLm of 2.5 ppm DYNACOOL and I ppm active organic phosphate in the circulating water. The discharge flow rate from the circulating water remains at 13,000 gpm. This combined with 14,000 gpm service water distharge flow rate at the plant discharge results in a discharge of 1.2 ppm whole product concentration and .48 ppm active phosphate residual. This does not represent an increase in product at the discharge, and is well within PNPP permit requirements.

Attachments I and 2 contain the information required in accordance with Ohio EPA procedures. fiince PNPP hopes to initiate this change in March, we would appreciate your notifying us of;he results of your evaluation as soon as possible. If you have questions or require additional information, please contact Donna Tizzano at (440) 280 5514.

Very truly yours, f /*
