Dear Mr. Ke pp le r :

This letter is in regard to IE Bulletin 79-01 for the Davis-Bessa Nuclear Power Station, l'n i t 1.

In a telecoa between D. W. Hayes of your staff and E. C. Novak of Toledo Edison on June 8, 1979, we had requested a thirty day delay in submitting our response to IE Pulletin 79-01. Mr. Hayes granted an oral ten day delay with a possible thirty day delay pending further review.

We hereby are reouesting the thirty day delay in submittal of this response for reasons as follows:

1. The personnel involved in assembling, and final review of the data are also the same people who are responsible for response to items resulting f rom the Three ' tile Island i' nit 2 incident. This is t rue not on l:, for Toledo Edison personne), but vendor persennel alsa
2. The demand for information from vendors has been so great a i to cause undue delays in their response to us.

At this stage of our review we have assured ourselves that electric al equipment required to function ende. accident conditions, including that wi tM a the contain-ment, is qualified to perform under those conditions. Some of this ,ssurance was provided to us orally, and backup documentation will be available to us The above provides the information to satisfy the thirty day delay request, and we desire to proceed with a completion date of July 13, 1979 instead of June 13, 1979 as requested by the Bulletin.

Yours very truly, fWf' JSG:LCS , , -
