On March 27, 1998 at 0820 hrs, a condensate drain valve located on the outside panel of rental plant heating boiler failed leaking a small amount of condensate on to the metal skirting surrounding the containment berm.The cracked valve leaked approximately 5 gallons of condensate past the spill containment and into the storm drain.This water eventually discharges to Lake Michigan via Outfall 001s.Although the discharge was minimal, Stormwater Outfall 001s discharge was analyzed for ethanolamine and hydrazine.

The heating boiler was immediately shut down to depressurize the system. The failed condensate valve was repaired. The storm drain catchbasin's contents were pumped out and properly disposed.
