February 21, 2008 LICENSEE: Nuclear Management Company (NMC)
FACILITY: Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant
SUBJECT:
SUMMARY
OF THE FEBRUARY 13, 2008, MEETING WITH THE LICENSEE TO DISCUSS PRE-APPLICATION ISSUES RELATED TO A FUTURE EXTENDED POWER UPRATE AMENDMENT APPLICATION (TAC NO. MD5531)
On February 13, 2008, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff held a Category 1 public meeting with representatives of Nuclear Management Company (NMC) at Westinghouse offices located at 12300 Twinbrook Parkway, Rockville, Maryland. This was the third of such meetings; the previous ones were held on June 5 and October 3, 2007 (see meeting summaries at Accession Nos. ML071710328 and ML072840499). The purpose of this meeting was to specifically discuss the licensee=s proposed approach to demonstrate steam dryer structural integrity at extended power uprate (EPU) conditions in preparation for a future amendment to approve EPU. A list of attendees is provided as Enclosure 1. The licensee=s handout material has been docketed and is publicly available at Accession No. ML080450480.
The licensees presentation, depicting its approach to demonstrate steam dryer structural integrity, was outlined by the handout material. The NRC staff discussed with the licensee various aspects of the approach but did not raise any significant technical concerns.
A portion of the meeting was closed to the public to discuss information proprietary to the licensee and its contractor Continuum Dynamics Incorporated (CDI). To assist in this discussion, NMC personnel provided a handout containing proprietary information. NMC personnel collected all copies at the end of this portion of the meeting; thus, the handout is not docketed as part of this meeting summary.
Before the meeting adjourned, members of the public were given the opportunity to communicate with the NRC staff both verbally and through the use of public meeting feedback forms. No comment or feedback was received at this time.
Please direct any inquiries to Mr. Peter Tam, NRC Project Manager for Monticello, at 301-415-1451, or pst@nrc.gov Sincerely,
/RA/
