NUCLEAR PLANT NO. 2, OPERATING LICENSE NPF-21 SCHEDULE FOR RESOLUTION OF ANTICIPATED TRANSIENTS WITHOUT SCRAM (ATWS) FOR WNP-2

Letter, G02-89-110, GC Sorensen (SS) to NRC, "Anticipated Transients Without Scram Implementation Schedule", dated June 16, 1989 In the reference we stated that the environmental qualification of ATWS equipment to the conditions associated with anticipated operational occurrences and to ATWS conditions up to the time the required function is completed remained to be confirmed for WNP-2. It was further stated that by December 1989 we would provide a schedule to complete this aspect of the ATWS resolution for WNP-2.

This letter is to inform the NRC that by June 29, 1990 we will provide the NRC a letter that addresses this issue for WNP-2. Based upon the information we have available at this time we expect this letter to confirm that the ATWS equipment satisfies the environmental qualification requirements of the ATWS rule. This will consist of establishing that the ATWS equipment was purchased against specifications that envelop the environmental conditions anticipated for the ATWS events. For primary containment these conditions are expected to be bounded by the LOCA and for secondary containment by those conditions present during normal operation.
