The following notification is being performed per NPDES Permit MI0005827, Part II.Section A.6., Spill Notification.
Thespillwaspreviously reportedvia.telephone callstoMr.GregDanneffel oftheMichigan, DNRPlainwell officeat2:00p.m.andMr.Carrollofthe'ationalResponseCenterat5:10p.m.,onAugust29,1995(Reportg305645.)
The spill was previously reported via.telephone calls to Mr.Greg Danneffel of the Michigan, DNR Plainwell office at 2:00 p.m.and Mr.Carroll of the'ational Response Center at 5:10 p.m., on August 29, 1995 (Report g305645.)The spill occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m.on August-.29, 1995, while divers were using hydraulic brushes to remove zebra mussels from the Cook Nuclear Plant's screenhouse intake forehay walls.The hydraulic line burst'nd released approximately 2 gallons of, hydraulic.'il to the intake forehay.The divers immediately shut down the hydraulic scrubbing unit and removed it from the water.Oil absorbent hooms were deployed into the forebay to clean up the surface oil sheen.Samples of the Unit 2 discharge indicated no trace of oil in the sample.Plant personnel launched an inflatable boat to inspect the discharge for signs of an oil sheen on Lake Michigan.The discharge plume was traversed and very small wisps of oil were noted extending south of the discharge.
