Thespillwaspreviously reportedvia.telephone callstoMr.GregDanneffel oftheMichigan, DNRPlainwell officeat2:00p.m.andMr.Carrollofthe'ationalResponseCenterat5:10p.m.,onAugust29,1995(Reportg305645.)

Thespilloccurredatapproximately 8:30a.m.onAugust-.29,1995,whilediverswereusinghydraulic brushestoremovezebramusselsfromtheCookNuclearPlant'sscreenhouse intakeforehaywalls.Thehydraulic lineburst'ndreleasedapproximately 2gallonsof,hydraulic.'il totheintakeforehay.Thediversimmediately shutdownthehydraulic scrubbing unitandremoveditfromthewater.Oilabsorbent hoomsweredeployedintotheforebaytocleanupthesurfaceoilsheen.SamplesoftheUnit2discharge indicated notraceofoilinthesample.Plantpersonnel launchedaninflatable boattoinspectthedischarge forsignsofanoilsheenonLakeMichigan.

Thedischarge plumewastraversed andverysmallwispsofoilwerenotedextending southofthedischarge.

Thelakewasverycalmduringtheinspection.
