OnJune.'.1,22and23,1985atapproximately0200bours,andagainonJuly2,1985at0835hours,theturbineroomsumpprocesspHmeterwasfoundinoperativeduetotheflowcontrolvalvebeingclosed.Uponeachdiscovery,thevalvewasimmediatelyopenedrestoringflowtothepHmeterre-establishingcontinuouspHmonitoring.DuringtheperiodsthesumpwaswithoutcontinuouspHmonitoring,approximately16,400gallons,35,700gallons,52,700gallons,and51,000gallons,respectivelywerepumpedfromthesumptotheplantabsorptionpond.In-linepHmonitoringrecordsindicateapHintherequiredrangepriortoandaftereachevent.ItisbelievedthattherequiredpHrangewasmaintainedduringtheinterimperiods.Aninvestigationisbeingmadetodetermineifa"noflow"alarmcanbeinstalledinthecontrolroomtoindicatethevalveisclosedandthemeterisinoperable.Verytrulyyours,RichardC.MengeVicePresidentcmkc:W.G.SmithIcertifyunderpenaltyoflawthatIhavepersonallyexaminedandamfamiliarwiththeinformationsubmittedonthisandallattacheddocuments;andbasedonmyinquiryofthoseindividualsimmediatelyresponsibleforobtainingtheinformation,Ibelievethesubmittedinformationistrue,accurateandcomplete.Iamawarethattherearesignificantpenaltiesforsubmittingfalseinformation,includingthepossibilityoffineandimprisonment.RichardC.Menge a~~L4~~,
