l Commitment Revision - Charging Pump Cooiing System Temporary Modification '

The purpose of this letter is to inform the NRC of a revision to a commitment that we  ;

made in LER 96-028-01 regarding a temporary modification of the Charging Pump Cooling (CCE) system. In the LER we stated that a temporary modification would be i L installed prior to service water temperature reaching 39 degrees to maintain CCE operability until no longer required ~as the result of either. permanent modification or establishment of operability at a lower temperature. The temporary modification was j installed in December 1996 and was in place over the Winter. The Lona Island Sound  :

temperature is increasing to the point that the temporary modification will not support coatinued CCE operability. Therefore, the temporary modification will be removed -

during the Spring, Summer and Fall and will be reinstalled prior to the Long Island Sound temperature reaching 39 degrees in the Fall if the CCE operability issue has not <

been resolved.  ;

The revised commitment is provided in Attachment 1. ,

Should you have.any questions regarding this matter, please contact Mr. J. M. Peschel at (860) 437-5840.
