Applicability Applies to. hydraulic shock suppressors (snubbers) in the 'following systems:

, a. Decay Heat Removal j, b. Makeup and Purification  ;

i c. Core Flood

d. Reactor Building Emergency Cooling

-. e. Reactor Building Spray -

f. Main steam up to and ine.luding main str.am isolation valves.

. g. Reactor Coolant System Objective .

To specify the frequency and type of examination which assures the continued integrity of the hydraulic snubbers.

Specification A. Inspection will be visual. '

l B. Ten percent of the snubbers in each system will be inspected each refueling outage.

C. Any seals found leaking will be replaced.

D. At the end of five years, 50% of the snubbers in each system will have been inspected.

E. At the end of 10 years,100% of the snubbers in each system will have been inspected.

F. The results of all inspections and any action taken will be

. reported to the AEC Directorate of Licensing.

Defects have occurred when a millable gum polyurethane containing plasticizers and additives has been used as a seal in conjunction with silicone based hydraulic

  • fluid. -Although these materials are not used in the Crystal River safety-related systems, inspection of all snubbers is required.
