PUBLIC MEETING ANNOUNCEMENT

- CATEGORY ONE MEETING ANNUAL ASSESSMENT - SHEARON HARRIS NUCLEAR POWER PLANT, DOCKET NO. 50-400

Dear Mr. Scarola:

This letter confirms the conversation between Mr. Terry Morton of your staff and me today, concerning an Annual Assessment Meeting (Category One public meeting) requested by us which is scheduled for March 24, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. (EST). The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the NRC Reactor Oversight Process Annual Assessment of your Shearon Harris Nuclear Power Plant. During the meeting, we recognize that you may have information which you want to present to us or any members of the public in attendance. Accordingly, if you so desire, after our presentation you will be afforded an opportunity to respond to any information contained in the Annual Assessment Letter and to discuss any new or existing programs that are designed to maintain or improve your current performance. The location of the meeting will be at the Holiday Inn Express Apex, 1006 Marco Drive, Apex, North Carolina 27502. The meeting will be an open meeting in accordance with NRCs Policy Statement for Enhancing Public Participation in NRC meetings, May 28, 2002 (Federal Register Volume 67, Number 102, 36920-36924).

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.390 of the NRCs Rules of Practice, a copy of this letter will be made available electronically for public inspection in the NRC Public Document Room or from the Publicly Available Records (PARS) component of NRC's document system (ADAMS).
