SUBJECT: NRC INSPECTION REPORT 50-263/98019(DRS)

Dear Mr. Wadley:

On December 18,1998, the NRC completed an inspection at your Monticello Nuclear

Generating Plant. The purpose of the inspection was to review the plant chemistry program, l

I

the post accident sampling system (PASS) and the radiological environmental monitoring

program (REMP). The enclosed report presents the results of that inspection. No violations of

NRC requirements were identified.

Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within these areas, the

inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and representative records,

interviews with personnel, and observations of activities in progress.

The inspectors found that, in general, your conduct of chemistry activities at the plant was

effective in particular, the Data Acquisition System used to monitor various chemistry

parameters throughout the facility was being utilized effectively. The plant water quality

program, the PASS and the REMP were all operated within the required parameters,

in accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules and Practice," a copy of this letter and its

enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
