NRC MONTICELLO SECURITY INSPECTION REPORT 50-263/98017(DRS)
Dear Mr. Wadley:
On October 30,' 1998, the NRC completed an inspection of your physical security program at
the Monticello Nuclear Generating Plant. The enclosed report presents the results of that

inspection.
Areas examined during the inspection are identified in the report. Within these areas, the
inspection consisted of a selective examination of procedures and representative records,
observations, and interviews with personnel. The objective of the inspection effort was to
determine whether activities suthorized by the license were conducted safely and in accordance
,
with NRC requirements.
No violations of NRC recuirements were noted in the areas that were reviewed. The security
]
department self assessment efforts continue to be very strong, aggressive and effective. Our
i
evaluation of the observed performance of your security officers and staff showed them to be
professional, com,netent and effective on a consistent basis. An inspection Followup Item was
identified pertaining to reliable radio communications with the local law enforcement agency.

In accordance with 10 CFR 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," a copy of this letter and its
enclosure will be placed in the NRC Public Document Room (PDR).
