Dear Mr. Cruden:

SUBJECT:

CITIZEN CONCERN REGARDING ROCK QUARRY BLASTING 0F LE0 LOGICAL FAULT - NORTH ANNA POWER STATION UNITS NO. 1 AND NC, 2 (NA-l&2)

We have received a concern from a private citizen regarding NA-182. The alleger's concern regards the opening of a rock quarry located within approximately five miles of NA-182 and which the alleger believes is located on the same geological fault as NA-l&2. The alleger has stated that a "Volcan Materials" effort to construct a rock quarry within five miles of NA-l&2 will involve blasting activities, which by way of the fault, could cause damag? to NA-182. In addition, the alleger has stated that the rock quarry has "not yet been approved"; however, within approximately 30 days, there are tentative plans to commence construction activities. It is noted that the alleger's concern was received by the NRC on April 27, 1988.

Since the rock quarry is located in close proximity to NA-l&2, we request that you address the alleger's concern regarding blasting activities and the safe operation of NA-182. We request that your response be provided to us within 45 days of the date of this letter.

4 The reporting and/or recordkeeping requirements contained in this letter affect fewer than 10 respondents; therefore, OMB clearance is not required under P.L.96-511.
