Dear Mr. Murakami:

s.1 This is in response to your letter of September 12, 1972, requesting information on the radioactivity emission tele-metery system planned for the Monticello Muclear Generating Plant.

According to our information, the system will receive input from three existing plaat monitors and will initiate indi-vidual alarms at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (HPCA) headquarters. The system will. include discharge points at the main stack gaseous release, the discharge water canal and the drain line from the floor drain sample tank to the discharge canal. We have not been apprised of the levels at which these alarms will be set. These levels vill be established by MPCA and can be revised from time to-time by them. If you desire to know the specific levels for the individual alarms, we suggest that you contact MPCA at the following address:

Mr. Grant J. Merritt, Executive Director Hinnesota Pollution Control Agency 717 Delaware Street Southeast Minneapolis, Minnesota 55414 With regard to your second question, we assume that=it relates to action that MPCA er Mertherm States Power Company (ESP) will take upon the initiation sf aa alarm 4 ~. -First-effall we ahemld like to point out thatithe lavelsTw1114e-_.setLeessider-ably below the point at whichfaa'emergemeysuem1 (axist.t The first action of'MPCA, according to the Q agreemaet-with: ESP, in the event - a = signal' is~ received will as*te* vert;ysthe
