Dear Mr. Schwencer:

The reference telephone call b3 tween the Chenical Engineering Branch of the NRC and PECO outlined an approach to resolve Limerick SER'Open Itan 14, structural steel fire resistance equivalent to that required of the associated barrier. Transmitted herewith are an improved description of the methodology employed in performing lanerick structural steel calculations, references supporting the maximun acceptable steel tenperature, and specific calculations as discussal for four fire areas.

We would be pleased to provide any additional information needed prior to the meeting scheduled for December 13, 1983 when we will pret.ent our prrposed program in detail.
