MEETING WITM MARK II OWNERS GROUP AND GENERAL ELECTRIC COMPANY ON MARK II CONTAINMENT.

~ak d: During the staff's generic review of Mark II containments with respect to dynamic loads, GE issued a Topical Report NEDE-24010-P, related to the SRSS method of combining dynamic loads, for the staff review.The staff reviewed the report and the review generated a number of questions in the structural and mechanical engineering areas.The purpose of this meeting was to discuss these questions in draft form prior to a formal transmittal to the Owners Group, An attendance list is attached.~Summar: The draft questions were discussed in enough detail to assure that the Owners Group attendees understood the questions and what was expected in the way of responses.

The staff stated that it would revise, add or delete questions where appropriate and send them to the Owners Group formally in a few weeks.No time was spent in attempting to make final response to the questions or to resolve issues although frequently the discussion would drift to SRSS vs, AS philosophy.

The Group urged the staff to concentrate its review on components made of ductile materials (metalic)such as piping etc.because these com-ponents need the relief provided by the SRSS method of combining loads, The concrete containments can all take the AS method of'ombining loads (although it was not done that way and the owners would still like to use SRSS for containment structures) and there is only one facility using a steel containment.
