Thank you for your letter of August 24, 1989, on behalf of Mr. Dick Pope, concerning nuclear reactor technology.

The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) does not have jur,isdiction over the matter of concern to your constituent.

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is the appropriate Federal.

agency /to respond to your inquiry. Accordingly, I am forwarding your letter to that agency for a reply.

For futura reference, the FERC is responsible for regulat-ing the production, sale, and transmission of natural gas; establishing just and reasonable rates for wholesale sales and the interstate transmission of electric power; licensing non-Federal hydroelectric power projects; and regulating rates charged by pipeline companies to transport oil in interstate 4 commerce. The FERC also has the authority to review certain rulemakings and major energy actions proposed by the Department of Energy.

If I can ever be of assistance on any Commission matter, please let me know.
