!! ACTION ALERT" In each of the last three montum SEABROOK STATION NUCLEAR POWER PLANT has been cited by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for violations ofits I
operating license requirements. During an inspection in early March, it was determined that plant personnel " failed to periodically calibrate" a pump in the system that cools the components necessary to safely shut down the plant in the event of an emergency. During j
an inspection completed on May 9, it was discovered that relays necessary to bring power from emergency diesel generators to operate plant safety systems in the event of a loss of regular power were not operational. "The licensee did not establish adequate measures to ensure that the. relays met all required calibration settings prior to installation," the NRC inspection report indicated. And, most recently, it was detemiined that during one of the nuclear plant's emergency response training drills, a violation occurred " based on the licensee not demonstrating timely activation of the (emergency response occurred, the NRC refused to take enforcement action against the plant's operators /h

Also on the SEABROOK STA ON NUCLEAR POWER PLANT front, while the
/uM company that operates the plant, orth Atlantic Energy Services Co., a wholly owned
- 1 subsidiary of Northeast Utilities o Connecticut, has indicated Seabrook is now Y2K compliant, SAPL and otbr enviro ental watchdog groups are still concerned. The p.#j Nuclear Regulatory Commission, hogvever, appears not to be. The " oversight" agency haspe#'y indicated that it is considering waiving enforcement actions against nuclear power plants that may be forced to operate outside t ie terms of their licenses by Y2K problems.
