EARTHQUAKE AT SAN ONOFRE UNIT 1 The Resident Inspector at San Onofre Unit I was informed by the licensee at approximately 5:15 a.m. on April 26, 1981, that the onsite seismic trigger tripped an alam (.0lg) at 5:12 a.m. Some licensee personnel stated that they felt a slight earthquake at that time.

Tha Cal Tech Seismological Lab has been quoted in the media as recording a earthquake of Richter magnitude 5.6 at 5:09 a.m. in Westmorland, California, approximately 125 miles east by southeast of the Unit. The licensee inspected the facility in accordance with its procedure. No damage was found. <

San Onofre Unit 1 has been shutdown since April 11, 1980. for repair.

This item is closed for purposes of updating.

Media interest (in this earthquake) has been high, but not directed at this facility, pqRC does not plan on issuing a news release.
